Dora Lam is an interdisciplinary artist from London. She is often found next to the stage painting at live performances. Live painting is a crucial, instinctive strand of her community-based practice. She has captured live scenes across London from underground clubs to the Royal Albert Hall. Dora has been resident artist at the Jazz Cafe, Camden since 2019.
All of Dora’s paintings are created in front of live audiences where completion is dictated by the last note of music played. Improvisational and intuitive in nature, the artworks serve as documentations: of a scene; a time; a culture; other art forms; the journey of a concert; the spirit of a moment... The canvas becomes a site where she embraces accidents, tension and rawness as a fundamental part of liveness and life.
Out of context of their live environments, the artworks may be seen in a different light. Dora hopes that audiences find in them a sense of joy - as fragments which document the blurry glimpse of some collective experience which occurred some time, some place.
